TEMPERAMENT IS EVERYTHING

We place a huge focus on raising puppies with sound temperaments. For this reason, our puppies are raised in our home as a part of our family. We stand out from other breeders by focusing on socialising and training our puppies young, so they can become the best family companions. In addition to creating a positive environment for our puppies, we select for good temperament in our breeding dogs. While conformation and the breed standard are strictly adhered to, we don't think it should come at the cost of bad temperament. Sadly, Smooth Fox Terriers have gained a reputation for their temperament. Our dogs are breed mascots and are used to promote the breed and visit different workplaces and schools. Our mission is to change how people perceive our breed and encourage people to own Smooth Fox Terriers. Temperament is not just breed-specific; it depends on the line of dogs you buy from. In our line, we select for excellent temperament, and this shows in our puppies.

WE RAISE OUR PUPS DIFFERENTLY

The majority of Smooth Fox Terrier breeders raise their puppies in kennels. Our focus is on raising our puppies as members of our family. From just a few weeks of age, they are exposed to many different sounds played on a playlist, exposed to a different breed of dog, a cat, and children. We encourage our puppy buyers to come play with the puppies and visit them in person.

We present challenges to our puppies every day with exposure to new surfaces, objects, water, people, kids, and sounds. All of these things enrich your puppy's early development and help to shape their positive behavior in different environments, reducing the risk of reactivity later in life.

Early socialization and desensitization are the key along with good genetics to prevent excessive barking, aggression, fearfulness, and other problem behaviors later in life.

By the time you receive your puppy, they will have started to learn to toilet on grass and follow your hand by 'luring' with food. We start teaching puppies to follow hand signals early to increase the trainability of your puppy and develop the 'willingness to please. We put in lots of hard work during this early period to ensure your puppy reaches its potential as a great companion and family member.
